First Base Class

The First Base class is especially designed to introduce Otterbein Church to persons new to the church and to give persons an opportunity to become a member of Otterbein Church.  It is a great place to meet other people, and it will help lay the foundation for your spiritual journey at Otterbein

Here are some of the topics discussed during the 1st Base class:

  • What it means to be a Christian
  • Information about baptism and communion
  • Otterbein's history and denominational affiliation
  • Otterbein's purpose, vision and core values
  • Otterbein's doctrinal statements
  • Otterbein's philosophy and approach to ministry
  • Membership information and requirements
  • Otterbein's future plans

Each class lasts approximately four hours and is generally held on Sunday during the late afternoon and early evening. Classes are also offered periodically at other time for those unable to attend on Sunday evenings.  When classes are offered on Sunday afternoon/evenings, supper (usually pizza) is provided for those in attendance.

Childcare is provided for all classes offered during September–April.  Childcare is not provided for classes offered during May–August.

Classes are offered several times a year and are publicized in the church bulletin. The class is taught by Pastor Mike and other staff members. The class also provides an opportunity for those in attendance to ask questions about Otterbein Church. Watch the bulletin for upcoming dates.
