Isaiah 9:6 (ESV) (6) For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Jesus is the Mighty God.

Mighty God. Those two simple words communicate the immeasurable power of Jesus overflowing from His divinity. This name for Jesus is too generous to be applied to any mortal. It can only be given to the divine God.

Listen as Jesus claims the name of Mighty God. Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, before Abraham was even born, I am.” John 8:58. Jesus is the “I AM” or self-existent, divine God.

Matthew 24:30 says, And they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. Jesus has and will demonstrate His limitless power and glory upon His return. Isaiah described Jesus as the Mighty God and Jesus accepted that name while on earth.

Nothing is too hard or wonderful for the Mighty God. Are those just words to you or is the Mighty God truly mighty in your life? Christmas is a time of joy, but that is often not the case for many of us. Wayward children or the consequences of poor decisions or family strife do not go away just because it is Christmas.

An old hymn says, “A mighty fortress is our God. A bulwark never failing.” Use today to recommit yourself to the Mighty God and yield to Him any struggles that are too big for you…but not for Him.
